TRANSCRIPT FOR EPISODE 337
Welcome to the show I am your host Rob and this is the Today in iOS podcast - First up I want to thank STEVE for sending in the music you hear in the background. STEVE wrote:
Hi Rob,
The entire piece was recorded, mixed & produced on the iPhone 5S
Three tracks are me playing a 9 tone Idiopan steel hand drum (made from propane tanks by Brett Hutchingson)
https://m.youtube.com/user/idiopandrums
Then I used a bunch of iPhone apps:
DR-OM, which is a virtual recreation of 1960's DR-OM analog drone boxes, which have their own fascinating history.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dr-om/id555409573?mt=8
The "leads" are two tracks using GyroSynth an app that uses the gyroscope in the iPhone to control pitch, volume, modulation by moving the device on different axises.
GyroSynth by BeepStreet
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gyrosynth/id386527164?mt=8
Finally, I added some percussion sounds using Impaktor, an app that uses vibrations picked up by the device's mic, & accelerometer, allowing the player to place the device on a table or other surface, and then playing percussion and/or other samples by hitting the table/surface.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/impaktor-drum-

The recording isn't the greatest, because I used the iPhone mic to record the Idiopan tracks.
I used Multitrack DAW
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/multitrack-daw/
id329322101?mt=8
for recording & mixing as well as sending this to you, and Audiobus app
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audiobus/id558513570?mt=8
to connect up the various virtual synths.

Thanks STEVE for the music and folks I will put the full song at the end of the episode. I also want to thank JEFF for sending in the Artwork for today's show. JEFF wrote
Hi Rob,
Here's how the attached image was composed
All the background elements were assembled in the Master Fx app on My iPad mini.
The program comes loaded with numerous separate pieces from skys, roads, & rivers to animals, machines & various special effects which can be easily assembled without the usual burdensome requirement of actual artistic talent, a fact I find most helpful. All the artistic elements can be moved, resized, masked & otherwise tweaked Infinitely.
Once assembled the image was opened in Tangled FX to create the etching like woven texture most notable in the water. This is a great app for creating textures from woven to painterly oils . The Tii in the sky was drawn in Zen Brush. Since you can't import images into Zen Brush, I saved the image to the Sketch Club & applied it to a separate layer which was put in difference mode to make the Tii blend into the sky. Sketch club is a great app for working easily with layers & making custom brushes from your doodles or photos.
Regards,
Jeff
Well JEFF Thanks again for sending in this artwork and folks you can see JEFF'S artwork in the FREE Tii App via the BONUS button for ep 337 - or if you subscribe via iTunes on your computer as the album artwork and also as a stand alone post in the VIP section and at Facebook.com/todayinios.
If you have some artwork and or music you have created on your iOS device that you would like to share with the audience please email it to me at today in iOS at gmail dot com and please make sure to include which app or apps you used to create said artwork and or music.

In this segment of how wrong were they we have the following quote quote “After spending the better part of yesterday digging deeply into Samsung’s analyst day materials, it has become clear to me that Apple, over the long haul, stands very little chance against the Samsung behemoth. While Apple’s products truly are wonderful, and while its engineering prowess is certainly very impressive, it’s clear that Samsung will brute-force its way into taking more and more marketshare from Apple at the high end while at the same time will enjoy key structural advantages in the low end that Apple would – at least in its present form – not be able to match. unquote
Ashraf Eassa, Seeking Alpha , 7 November 2013
Why is it all so often writers at Seeking Alpha really seem to just be seeking intelligence. Wow - Could Mr Eassa have been any more wrong. Apple in 2014 cleaned Sammy’s clock on the high end and Sammy had its bell rung on the low end by multiple Chinese players. Kinda sucks to be Sammy and Mr Eassa for that matter - Just Sayin

http://appleiph0ne.com/ios-8-2-beta-5-download-released
Apple Released iOS 8.2 beta 5 on Ground hog day - which I thought would mean I would have lots of time to find articles talking about new features with beta 5 before this episode was recorded - ummm no - seems it was mostly bug fixes for beta 5. There is now the option for devs to create their own setting bundles for the extensions they write for Watchkit - but that seems to be it. Again other than bug fixes.
However - there was one theme I saw in many posts - Where people are now predicting iOS 8.2 will be available in March. Ummm No - The apple Watch Tim Cook said will be in April.
Apple will want to make sure iOS 8.2 is as good as it can be - and that means waiting until just before the apple watch launches. If the Apple watch launches on April 24th - then iOS 8.2 will be available on April 22nd.
But March - nope don’t see that happening - Apple needs to get the software as good as possible. Could be wrong - often am on these things - but I would expect one more Beta in Feb and then one more in March - assuming my assumption of an April mid to late April launch for the Apple Watch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UViZMnYPfGI
Back to the Beta 5 - when the beta 4 came out there was a video showing the iPhone 4S running beta 4 vs iOS 8.1.2 where it showed 8.1.2 was slightly faster then beta 4 - this time there is a video showing beta 5 vs iOS 8.1.3 - and this time it does look like the beta 5 was just a bit faster then 8.1.3. Which is good news for iPhone 4S users - Assuming iOS 8.1.3 was not slower than 8.1.2 - And here is also hoping 8.2 gets even better with beta 6 - as I have had complaints lately from my son about lag with his 4S. not always - but enough time that I am noticing.

http://www.redmondpie.com/apple-iphone-beats-all-android-phone-sales-combined-in-us/
Thanks to Michael and Steven for this next story. Which is per a report from Kantar WorldPanel - who just released a report for smartphone sales in the US for Q4 - and for the first time since 2012 the iPhone sales in the US beat out ALL Android devices combined. And by beat out we mean a score of 47.7% to 47.6% - Hey a win is a win - be it 0.1% or 1% or 10%.
Carolina Milanesi, chief of research at Kantar Worldpanel said the following
Quote
While the success of the iPhone 6 and 6Plus is unprecedented, this quarter’s performance also points to Apple having its strongest portfolio ever. With a range of devices available at different price points in both contract and pre-pay Apple was able to take advantage of a weaker Android offering at the premium end of the market.
unquote
It is amazing to think that Apples not even handful of devices beat out hundreds and hundreds of different Android devices combined.
In case you are wondering - Windows Phone sales accounted for 3.8% of US smartphone sales.
And luckily my iPhone has a calculator - and it tells me that the other category had a total of 0.9% - Other in this case being mostly blackberry. 0.9% - 0.9% - 0.9% - wow - how the mighty have fallen in the last 8 years.

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/02/01/apple-ranks-as-
chinas-most-desirable-luxury-brand/
Thanks to Dr. John for this next one Which is an article from the Wall Street Journal titled - Apple Ranks as China’s most desirable luxury brand.
From the article quote
In China, iPhones not only outsold all other smartphones in the fourth quarter, it also beat Louis Vuitton and Hermès to become the most preferred gift choice among the country’s richest this year, according to China-based luxury publishing group Hurun Research.
unquote
The Top 3 for best brand for Mens gift were
Apple #1, Louis Vuitton #2 and Gucci #3
For Women the top 3 best brands for gifts were
Apple #1, Chanel #2 and Louis Vuitton #3
So yes in China buying your significant other an iPhone with a luis vuitton case seems to be the way to their heart regardless of their sex.
It is also the way to Apples Bottom line as China continues to become a bigger and bigger piece of Apples Global sales.
Oh and what better way to show someone you have an Apple product then by strapping one on your wrist. I mean after all - what is the point of getting a luxury item if you can’t you know flaunt it to those less fortunate.

http://www.cultofmac.com/311171/crazy-iphone-rig-
shows-chinese-workers-manipulate-app-store-rankings/
Thanks to Mark H and many others for the heads up on this next one.
What is that old saying Cheaters never win and winners never cheat - well unless you are playing Professional football or you are an App company gaming the iTunes system.
Seems some companies are gaming iTunes by employing Chinese workers to play games on many many devices at once to drive up rankings.
This is done at what is called an App Manipulation Farm - AMF's See Devs can pay for their apps downloads artificially inflated. But this article misses part of the Apple algorithm - which used to be just downloads for Apps - but now has a strong component of App launches and sessions played.
Hence where these AMF’s come into play. Each worker is placed in front of a rack of 50 to 100 Smartphones.
They also found the price sheet for these services. If you want your free app to make it to the top of iTunes it will cost you $11,200 - if you want to keep it there for a week it is $65,000 per week.
Note the Picture of this which is what made this story go viral has not actually been verified as someone working in an AMF - but it could be - and that they were able to find pricing for this service and multiple companies in china offering the service - definitely lends that said manipulation is going on.
Again - Apples ranking is not just purely by downloads - it has a launch and use aspect to it - so for this to work - you are looking at a lot of labor and devices to pull it off. Also rankings are not global in iTunes App stores - they are by country - so for someone to pull this off in the US or other countries with higher wage rates - it would cost much more.

http://www.computerworld.com/article/2878090/warning-
applewatch-april-likely-us-first.html
Per the Apple Watch and it shipping in Early 2015 - which Tim Cook said would be April. Well it now seems that is for those customers in the US. As the US Apple Watch page says it will ship in early 2015. But change over to the UK store and it just says in 2015. No mention of quote early unquote - so again for the UK at least - it does not look like there will be availability of the apple watch until after May 1st 2015. Same with Australia, Canada, and Hong Kong - as they all just say 2015 - only the United States Apple store says Early 2015 - i.e. before May 1st.
Sorry folks outside the US. And in the US - that likely means shortages - which means lines - if you really want to get one before the summer that is.
23:11
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2015/02/01/1-huge-improvement-
likely-coming-to-apple-incs-iph.aspx
Hi Rob, An early start to iPhone 6s rumors. Dr. John M
One thing we know about other rumors from past years that were quote leaked unquote before April - yeah - pretty much all were bunk.
This time of year is when people try to guess what will be released and then say they heard from some un-named source - if they get it right - they point back to it later on and say see I told you - and when more likely they get it wrong - they you know just make believe they never said anything at all.
So this article is a refreshing change for this time of the year - as the author does not say he was informed by un-named sources, people in the know or even little green men - he just comes out and say this is what he thinks will happen. Honesty - it is so refreshing - and un-usual - especially given the source - which is Fool.com - and the author is Ashraf Eassa - if the name sounds familiar - that is because he was featured in our how wrong were they segment - and it was completely co-incidence.
That all Said What Mr Eassa speculates for the iPhone 6S series - is an major update in the graphics processor. He talks about Imagination Technologies recently announced next-gen set of graphic processor IP known as PowerVR Series 7XT
Apple in the past has integrated Graphic Processor IP from Imagination Technologies into its A-Series Chips.
According to Imagination Technologies - Bench mark testing on its new 7XT IP showed an improvement of between 35% and 61% at the same frequency processor.
If Apple ups the processor clock speed - and reduces from 20 Nano meters to 14 or 16 nana meter FinFet technology and Apple goes quad core and Apple goes to 2MB for ram - well if all of those ifs becomes check marks - then the next iPhone 6S would see a graphics performance boost much greater than what was seen from the 5S to the 6.
Most of what he said in the article makes sense. But then Again - do remember this all came from todays How wrong were they featured guest.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/102389945
Thanks to Dr. John for this next one as well plus also quite a few others - which is about good news for Arizona - but bad news for anyone expecting an unbreakable Sapphire screen on their iPhone any time soon.
Seems the Mega Factory Apple purchased in Mesa Arizona for the express and sole purpose of manufacturing Tons and Tons of Sapphire for iPhone screens - and which tragically resulted in the collapse and bankruptcy of GTAT - well that plant is now going to be a Mega Data center for Apple. Apple announced this past week it will invest $2 Billion to build up a data center at that site.
Quote This multibillion-dollar project is one of the largest investments we've ever made, and when completed it will add over 600 engineering and construction jobs to the more than one million jobs Apple has already created in the U.S.” unquote - said Apple.
I say this is bad news as this definitely means no Sapphire Screen this year or next year for the iPhone. Remember Apples plan for that facility was for it to be producing already 2/3rds of the artificial sapphire in the world. For them to convert that site so quickly to something completely different really looks like Apple says - we tried - we failed - we are moving on. Good for Mesa Arizona - in that they still get more job creation and investment. Good for Apple in that they are not getting hung up on a technology that ultimately did not pan out - but bad for those of us hoping to have an iPhone that when it does a faceplant our stomach does not instantly drop.
27:29
http://www.engadget.com/2015/02/07/corning-
project-phire/?ncid=rss_truncated
But our mourning over the loss of Sapphire might be short lived - Thanks to Chris from London for sending this article over - which is from Engadget and it is titled - Corning’s sapphire-like glass keeps your smartphone scratch-free - and well I think you get the gist of the article - it is about a new product from Corning where they are teasing that they figured out how to make a product that is as shatter resistant as Gorilla glass 4 and approaches the scratch protection of Sapphire.
Remember while Sapphire was almost impossible to scratch it is more brittle than Gorilla glass - so it would still shatter when face planted - that is something that brought does GTAT - as they never were able to get Sapphire produced that was not as brittle.
This product is apparently code named Phire - as in P H I R E - and we can only assume it is a code name and not the official name.
If anyone can pull off this - it is corning - and maybe last years scare from Apple got them kicked into high gear. Because if Apple and GTAT had pulled that rabbit out of a hat - it would have been very bad news for Corning.
I am sure more about this story in the future.

http://time.com/3697110/apple-tv-rumors/
Time.com had an article titled - Why the Apple TV Rumors are more believable this time. Oh call me a sucker - but I was hooked - I had to read this one. And this one is per the article on feb 4th in Re-Code by Peter Kafka.
In Peter’s article - he wrote that Apple is in Talks with TV Programmers about deals that quote would allow apple to offer an over the top pay-tv service. unquote. Ok first - Apple must really like to talk - because these said talks have been going on for years now. Just ask Uncle often wrong Gene Munster.
Peter addresses that cynicism in his article by saying quote
One difference between earlier efforts and the current chats: After years of failed efforts to deliver TV over the Web, both Dish and Sony have reached agreements with programmers to deliver both live, “linear” TV as well as video-on-demand, just like cable-TV providers offer. So now there’s a model for this stuff. Unquote
Back to the Time article and why they think this time there may finally be fire to go with the smoke. Well basically for the same reasons as what Peter said - others are now kinda doing it - so why not Apple.
I guess call me skeptical - but this is a rumor I have been reporting or mentioning on since well just after the iPhone came out or pretty close. The internal optimist in me really really wants to believe Apple has Cracked TV. But the part of me that can search back through past show notes - realizes - anyone that has mentioned this as coming soon - has been left with lots of egg on ones face. Just Sayin.
30:40
http://money.cnn.com/2015/02/04/technology/apple-watch-flop/index.html
Thanks to Christian and Kirby for this next one - which is definitely going to be in a future how wrong were they. Basically the same exact Article was published 8 years ago for the iPhone - then they did a find and replace for iPad and republished right before the iPad launched - and now they did a find and replace with Apple Watch. Essentially this was pure and simple a Link Bait title from CNN Money titled The Apple Watch will flop - heres why.
How do we know it was Link bait - because the first sentence of the article is already back tracking on the title. Which they say quote The Apple Watch is going to be a flop. Well, in Apple terms anyway. unquote
Oh per the reasons why it will be a flop - the first reason is it costs $350 - yes and we all know that Apple Products costing $350 or more tend to be flops.
Again this is an article where they simply went back and repurposed one of those articles saying the iPad, iPhone, even the iPod will be a flop.
Hey CNN Money - can I get the 5 minutes of my life back I just spent reading this crap.

http://thehackernews.com/2015/02/android-malware-
google-play.html
Speak of getting some time of your life back - time for me to dog on Android. Thanks to the plethora of you that sent in links for this next one. Which is from The Hacker News dot com. And the article in question is titled - Adware Android Apps found in google play with millions of downloads -
From the Article quote security researchers have once again found Google Play Store offering malicious apps that are infecting millions of Android users with adware. unquote
Adware is software that automatically displays and or downloads advertising material to a users phone when connected to the net. The problem is with Android Adware can quote pose a major threat to users' privacy, since some ad networks gather personal information like phone number, email address, and many more. Depending on where the ad network is based, there might be no legal guidelines for how that information could be used. unquote
Unlike with iOS - where Apple has strict rules about what Advertisers can and cannot do - which by the way Advertisers hate - but still spend lots more on the iOS side. But with Android - there are no real checks on what Advertisers can do - after all Android is an alter that was built to sacrifice you the user to the advertising gods - so why would they ever think of restricting what gets sacrificed on said alter. Just sayin.
Yes very small number of you get testy when I slam Android - but remember - I am not slamming Android users - They are the victims - I am slamming the Alter maker and the gods calling for the sacrifices in this story. Not those whose throats were slit. For lack of a better analogy.
I will just say if you are using iOS and thinking of changing or on the fence between iOS an Android - read this article. If you are someone with an annoying Android Fan boys friend / co-worker or relative - and need ammo for the water cooler / dinner table - read the article.

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2015/02/bad-time-for-samsung-
mobile-and-android-based-devices
Thanks to Steve and Michael and a few others for this one.
Which you know just makes me smile. It is about Sammy and issues they are having.
As we know last quarter Apple had the best quarter ever - I don’t want to say their best quarter ever - I think that under sells - it so I will say The Best quarter ever - as in the best quarter ever by anyone in the history of Business. While Apple was busy have The best Quarter ever - Things over at the Sammy side we not so sunny. queue in the sad trombone.
see Profits for its mobile division fell over 64%.
Now both companies did sell about the same number of Phones last quarter. But the ASP of Sammy phones was about $250 while Apples ASP was almost $700. This according to a report from ABI Research. See the Average sales price of the iPhone jumped up about $87 year over year for the quarter for Apple - but at for Android devices it dropped by $100 year over year.
Now as bad as things are for Android - things are worse for MS handheld division their average smartphone sells for just $45 - yes $45 as in $5 less than $50. Ouch.
Oh and I should point out ABI also just released info on Tablet sales for last quarter - and one of the things they noted was a huge drop off in Kindle Fire sales. A little back story - Amazon has never reported kindle fire numbers - just used funny marketing jargon to say how great sales are without you know giving real numbers like Apple does.
That all said Amazon protested in how ABI calculated what was a tablet and the numbers they presented. And Amazon tried to save face and say their 6 inch fire was the most wished for device - again with the marketing speak. See ABI is not including anything less than 7 inches in their tablet numbers.
But here is a little hint to Amazon - if you don’t want people to think your sales suck for your tablets or media devices or what ever they are called are. You could you know RELEASE said numbers. Amazon has never said how many Kindle Fires they have sold - yet that have the audacity to go after ABI for trying to figure it out at least for the devices over 7 inches. If you are mad at ABI - just pick up the phone call them and tell them the real number - otherwise Amazon - please shut up. Sorry - a little rant there - but Hypocrisy chaffs me.

Hi Rob,

Thanks Bob - So true.
Hello,
I'm writing to you today, because calling the number was not working for some reason. Anyway, I wanted to tell you and the audience about this great app I've been using to get things done. It's called Timeful and what makes it great is how it integrates your calendar and reminders to suggest the most convenient times for you to do whatever it is you're trying to do on a given day. The best feature, in my opinion, is the ability to add habits that you want to form. All you have to do is designate a time frame such as morning, afternoon, or evening and how long the habit takes to complete daily and it will notify you when you're free to do said activity. I've started flossing as a result.
However, I have a tendency to forget to check the app every morning to make sure I plan my day, so I wanted to ask you or the audience if there is an app or process that could launch up your morning apps when you wake up. I don't want to jailbreak, so keep that in mind. Loving the show more every week, so keep doing you.
Thanks,
Jonathan from New Orleans
Hi Rob,
When iOS 8 was introduced, the raise to speak functionality was removed. This feature was so useful because you could control your iPhone using Siri simply by lifting your phone to your ear and then speaking. This meant that you could create appointments, notes et cetera without everyone around you knowing about it.
Recently, I found a workaround that allows iPhone users to do this in a similar way. All you need to do is press and hold the home button until Siri starts. As soon as Siri starts raise the phone to your ear give the normal commands. Siri will do your bidding and any output be heard through the phones earpiece, not the speaker. This method can also be used with the dictation button and I have found that my dictation accuracy is very much improved when using the phone this way instead of using a microphone.
I hope this helps those iPhone users who were very disappointed with the removal of raise to speak

the-worlds-smallest-smart-thermometer
Hi Rob, This is Harry from Joywing team. We have been developing a small non-contact smart thermometer called Wishbone for parents. It has a distinctive Y shaped design that makes it easier for user to operate and view at the same time. It is compatible with the iPhone and can check object and ambient temperatures. We launched Wishbone on Kickstarter over a week ago and got really good feedback from other parents: I created Wishbone based on my experience as a father and feedback from my customers (I am also a baby product store owner). I want it to be a thoughtful and caring product and I believe that getting insights from everyone, not just parents, is the key. We woild love to hear your thoughts on the product idea and how we can make it better for parents. Thank you for your time and I look forward hearing from you. Harry Hu Founder of Joywing Tech
Hello Harry - and thanks for the heads up on your kickstarter project called Wishbone. Which had a goal of $20k and now is well over $100k. So Congrats Harry. I can attest to the thermometer issue - we had a forehead thermometer and trying to get a good reading on it was hit or miss it seemed - often ending with the under the arm thermometer - which then ended with well the one that requires vaseline. You get the picture and my sons when they were babies well they often got .. well again you get the picture.
Pricing for this is $33 for one. $60 for two and $87 for three.
If you have a baby or are planning on having one in the future you will want to search for Wishbone in Kickstarter dot com or in the show notes for Ep 337.
You have until Feb 26th at 11:51 AM CT to fund this project.

Thanks to Lenard and Skynard and everyone else that sent in this next one. Which refers back to Neil Youngs PonoPlayer - this was going to be a magical Media player with audio quality so great you would plunk down $500 for the device and then go and buy special versions of your favorite song encoded in a manner that it is supposed to be of superior quality.
Which in theory sounds great - but in practice - well yeah - not so much - well in the superior quality perspective.
There is an article titled - Neil Young’s PonoPlayer - the Emperor has no clothes - and the article goes over the results of blind testing of the Pono player and its special music tracts and the iPhone and standard iTunes tracks - and not only could people not tell a difference - but the majority that had a preference in audio quality picked the iPhone. Dooohh.
Well, I Hope Neil Young will remember a sound man don’t need him around anyhow.
Folks - Just stick with your iPhone for good music playback.

A question right before recording came in via our Google+ community from Myron Uecker and he asked

I was wondering if anybody had recommendations for a backpack for carrying an iPad and a few accessories like headphones, chargers, external battery, etc. It seems that almost everything I'm finding online is either sized to fit a laptop (Macbook Air size may not be too big, though) or so small you can barely fit a charger in the same bag.
The bag I am currently using is a ful messenger bag and it is about 9x12x4. I like the bag and would recommend it to anybody but I'm looking more for a small backpack or sling bag. This one just has a carry handle and shoulder strap.
I carry my iPad with me just about everywhere and there are times when the shoulder strap is not the best choice. I think I would be happier with a backpack that is about the same size but could carried securely on my back.
Ideas?

To which I responded - Check out the STM line of backpacks.
I love my Laptop bag and my Backback for my Laptop - their quality is great.
They have a line of bags for iPads.

Hey Rob,
Can you ask your listeners for their advice… Im looking for a presentation app to do the following:
• To present from one iPad to 8 other iPads - in the same room.
• Present PDFs and Videos.
• Prevent the viewers from skipping ahead in the presentation.
• Allow presenter to highlight, circle, etc. live
• Allow viewers to take notes and make annotations while watching presentation, with ability to save notes for future reference.
Thanks Rob this will be a big help

Hey Rob,
I was just wondering if you have heard anything about the PPghost jailbreak for iOS 8.1.2 on Mac. Have you tried it? Or would it be a better, although more complicated, option to use TaiG via a Windows virtual machine on a Mac? I haven't updated to 8.1.3 yet, since I want to retain the ability to jailbreak.
Regards,
Michael O
Hi Rob,
if I can bother you with a quick question.
I am looking at an iPhone 5 (Verizon) for sale which has already been jailbroken, the question is this, it is running iOS 7 version 7.0.4.
The seller is willing to update it higher if I want.
What would you do? Leave it there or go up to 8.1.2?
thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Johnny Helmsteadt
ps. I have looked into jailbreaking myself, and it requires that my itunes be moved back a version or two from what I currently have on my MacBookAir.

Hi Rob, Might be worth trying out to see if you want to wait for gen 2. Remember the big difference between the initial iPhone and the iPhone 3G.
Regards,
xxxxxx
And what xxxx is talking about is a new service that is like the Netflix of consumer electronics - where you can try out some electronics for a low fee - The company is Lumoid - L u m o i d dot com Lumoid users can pick any 5 devices to try for seven days for $20.
No word on if this pricing will also cover the Apple watch as well - as they do have other pricing levels.
More on this I am sure in the future.
But I do want to reply to xxxxx's comment about the initial iPhone and the 3G - and there difference there of. I have seen a few articles in the past week - that said to wait to the 2nd gen Apple watch - remember the differences in the past for 1st gen apple devices. Except the difference between the first Gen iPhone and the 3G - was very very little. The iPhone 3G - had 3G connections. And the only other difference was it was plastic. Same processor and camera and other internals - the big and only difference was the iPhone 3G - was 3G - and the Original iPhone was not - but it did have a nicer case for the Original - just like the original iPod had the best click wheel of all the iPods.
Sometimes first Gen Apple devices have some unique features that make it worth the purchase. Remember that when you read articles about people talking about waiting for the 2nd gen of an Apple product.

Hey Rob -
I have two issues with iOS 8 that are really bugging me.
First, I'm running a 64GB iPhone 6 on AT&T.
The problems:
1. When someone tries to schedule an all-day or multi-day event using Outlook, my iCal ALWAYS, every single time, crashes when trying to open the event in the iOS email app.
2.The Message app locks up, sort of, very often. It will show my messages, but won't let me reply. It also has sometimes stuck in landscape mode as well. I have to swipe up to kill the app, then reopen it and it will work.
Both of these issues have been happening since iOS 8.0.
i was just wondering if you or any other listeners have had these problems.
Great show!
