In this segment of how wrong were they we have the following quote quote “Why will Microsoft dominate the tablet market? The answer is as simple as it is obvious. Windows will continue to dominate, for the same reasons it has always dominated the PC and laptop market and continues to do so, by a wide margin. Let me make another obvious prediction. The iPad can never replace people’s laptops and PCs, or even make much of an impact in these markets, because it simply does not even begin to have the same capabilities — not even close. unquote

xcode-hack/index.html
Lets start this weeks episode talking about probably the biggest news the past week with regards to iOS - at least in the main stream press Nope - Not iOS 9 and its release, or the Coming launch of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus Nope it was Apples’ Malware issue.
What is not always clear in the titles of these articles - or even in the body of some of them - is that the issue - is mostly with apps being downloaded in the Chinese app store. Yes - they are available elsewhere - but these are apps specifically designed for the Chinese market by Chinese developers.
So how did Apps with Malware get inside the Apple Walled garden - well they were built with a compromised version of Xcode. The Malware is being called XcodeGhost and was used to build a bunch of apps for the Chinese Market.
This even includes a Chinese version of Angry Birds 2 built by a team from Rovio in China.
It seems that in China the official download of Xcode can be slow - really slow - So a few sites in China hosted what they claimed was Xcode - the official version - but really it was a modified version that when you built apps with it - it added in Malware.
Apple has been pulling down apps. And the number of apps affected range from a low of 85 to a high of almost 5,000 depending on the article you read.
Some of the affected apps are very popular in China including the WeChat App, Angry Birds 2 - by the aforementioned Chinese team for Rovio, There was Didi Chuxing - a leading Taxi requesting app, Railway 12306 a popular Train-ticket purchasing App and China Unicom’s Mobile Office - to name just a few of the popular ones.
So what did Apple have to say about all of this?
Well on the 25th of September they put up this post for developers and also sent out as an email
Quote
We recently removed apps from the App Store that were built with a counterfeit version of Xcode which had the potential to cause harm to customers. You should always download Xcode directly from the Mac App Store, or from the Apple Developer website, and leave Gatekeeper enabled on all your systems to protect against tampered software.
When you download Xcode from the Mac App Store, OS X automatically checks the code signature for Xcode and validates that it is code signed by Apple. When you download Xcode from the Apple Developer website, the code signature is also automatically checked and validated by default as long as you have not disabled Gatekeeper.
Whether you downloaded Xcode from Apple or received Xcode from another source, such as a USB or Thunderbolt disk, or over a local network, you can easily verify the integrity of your copy of Xcode.
Yada Yada Yada Yada
unquote
So what should you do - if you are in China - first and foremost - make sure you update all your apps - many of the affected apps already have replacements built with a clean version of Xcode available - like Angry Birds 2. Beyond that look for the link in the show notes for the article titled - These are the 85 iOS apps affected by the XcodeGhost malware - And see if you have any of those installed.

MixPanel was looking at iOS 9 adoption rates - and what they found was that in just 3 days - Apple did with iOS 9 what it took over 9 months for Android to do - and that was hit 20% adoption rate for their latest and greatest software.
And then on Monday the 21st - just 5 days after launch Apple reported the following:
Quote the fastest iOS adoption ever, with more than 50 percent of devices already using iOS 9.

Clearly not people that listen to this podcast. Or Podcasts a lot for that matter. Because there is one confirmed and major bug - and that is for Heavy Podcast app users. The Podcasts App is still crashing and burning for many. Or more precisely when you go to open the Podcasts App - it takes you to a white screen with the words updating library - and a spinning wheel - then about 15 seconds give or take 5 later the app crashed back to the home screen.
I have been talking to Apple about this - sharing my crash log files and anything else they want. At this point it does appear to be a very small % of users this is affecting - but there is an Apple iTunes forum board post on this with over 11 pages of posts - 15 posts per page.
If you like me updated to iOS 9 and you like me were a power consumer of podcasts - and you like me are now seeing the white screen and a crash - sadly there is no simple solution. For Some - with quotes around some - for some users they have wiped their iphone clean to factory fresh settings and were able to then get the podcasts app to open - well at least until they tried to set back up with their back up - and then it crashes again. Others could not even get it to work with a full restore. Another thing we know is it is not limited to one set of hardware - the issue is affecting all makes and models of iOS devices that update to iOS 9 AND had a healthy Podcast library.
Again the % is small - but for this audience it will be much higher. If you have subscribed to more than 5 or 10 podcasts ever - DO NOT update to iOS 9 at this time. If you do - well there is always the Tii App for direct consumption.
Actually the benificiary of this issue seems to be Overcast - which was in the top 30 of free News apps this week. And for the Paid news apps - Pocketcasts, Downcast and Podcruncher are all in the top 10.
At libsyn we have been watching to see if this issue affected overall downloads - and it has not. There were actually more downloads in the 7 days after the release of iOS then there were in the 7 days prior to the release. A modest 1.3% increase. So whatever is happening it has not affected podcast downloads yet.
At this point it looks like it will take a double dot update to fix the issue - and yes - people running iOS 9.1 beta 1 and beta 2 are still having the issue.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/09/apple-releases-ios-9-0-1-
with-fixes-for-setup-assistant-alarms-other-bugs/
And speaking of double dot updates - Apple released on the 23rd their first double dot update - iOS 9.0.1
And NO this does not fix the Podcasts App issues. Whannnt Whannt Wahhh
What it does fix is the following:
Quote Fixes an issue where some users could not complete set up assistant after updating.
Fixes an issue where sometimes alarms and timers could fail to play
Fixes an issue in safari and photos where pausing a video could cause the paused frame to appear distorted
Fixes an issue where some users with a custom APN set up via a profile would lose cellular data.
If you are already updated to iOS 9 - then yes go and update to iOS 9.0.1 - it is available as a pretty small over the air update - just 35 MB in file size for my iPhone 6+ - file size will vary depending on your iOS device.
16:16
https://thestack.com/security/2015/09/21/apples-
ios-9-breaks-vpns/
Another bug reported with iOS 9 that could be a key reason not to update - is that for some users it is breaking VPN’s. Like with the podcasts app this is something first noticed in the betas and not fixed yet.
Cisco had the following to say about this bug claiming quote “a couple of OS regressions between iOS 8.4.1 and iOS 9 […] Most notable is that when doing split tunneling, the Tunnel All DNS option no longer functions as expected. This was reported to Apple under Radar # 22558059. This is not resolved in the iOS 9 release.” unquote
As with the podcast app it is not affecting all users. But for some users DNS resolution will not work for them depending on their network setup. Some corporate servers will no longer be usable by the users even after they had a successful login - and when Users can’t use - that is an issue. Especially for those required to VPN to their work server to access docs.
So if you are someone that relies on VPN’s at work to get your work done - you definitely do not want to upgrade to iOS 9 yet - as even cisco seems to be saying the only solution if you have a VPN issue in iOS 9 - is to downgrade to iOS 8.4.1 for now.

http://geardiary.com/2015/09/18/iphone-6-plus-heating-up-
battery-draining-after-ios-9-0-update-do-this/
Another issue some iOS9 updaters are reporting is their iOS device getting hotting and sucking down the battery life like a thirsty 4 year old sucks down a juice box.
The solution for you if your iOS device is getting warming and the battery life sucks is simple - do the reset network settings step I always recommend - yup that seems to fix the vast majority of people reporting issues with iOS 9.
Of course they probably would not have had the issue if they had done that prior to updating to iOS 9.
I do find it funny how every year I recommend two things - 1 - wait - and 2 - if you are going to update - at least force quit open apps - back up and then reset network settings before updating.
And every year - someone will go out of their way to say they did not listen and had no issues - but then I also have many others that say - they wished they had listened.
Like this email
Dear Rob
WHY WHY WHY didn't I heed your advice and wait a couple weeks to update my iPhone 6 to iOS 9?? The phone is slow to respond when opening and closing apps at times. It has definitely lost some "zip" in areas here and there. I should've waited.

Russell Springs KY
PS. A couple episodes back when you recorded from a hotel I thought it actually sounded great!
Thanks for the feedback Chris - and I would suggest at this time to first force quit all open apps then go to settings —> general —> Reset —> reset network settings
And then see how things are working.
By the way this is not voodoo that I am recommending - it is not about putting magnets in your socks to cure some alignment - this is based on advice we had sent in long ago - and is given out at Apple stores and apple support. The theory is that sometimes you get a rogue process that goes running on - especially one that is pinging a network over and over - and that causes battery usage issues and slows down other items. By force quitting apps and then resetting network settings - in theory at least all background activities should be closed out - especially any that were having issues.

One question that came in from a few people is the H E Y siri function that apple mentioned being on all the time - how come that does not work yet in iOS 9 - well because you need an iPhone 6S or 6S+ for it to work all the time - it has to do with the M9 processor being brought into the A9 Processor.
But it is a hardware limitation for making siri always in listening mode.

apple-s-rapid-ios-9-adoption-shows-the-future-of-it.html
Nice Article from Jonny Evans at computer world talking about iOS 9’s rapid adoption rate.
Actually earlier I made it sound like it took 5 days for iOS 9 to get to 50% adoption rate. But according to Apple - it was actually less then 3 days to get to 52% adoption rate.
Compared to 9 Months for Android to get to 20%.
Ouch - now you know why it is better to program for iOS.
Any way - if you were wondering if you should update to iOS 9 at this point. As long as you 1. Are not a power user of Podcasts and use the Podcasts app - and 2. Do not need VPN services for work - then for the rest of you - yes it looks safe to update.
I highly recommend when you do update - that you follow the procedures in the PDF in the Tii App - it goes over the steps to take. Again - yes there are more then probably needed for most - but if you do the update right you will have less issues likely down the line.

http://9to5mac.com/2015/09/21/apple-watch-
watchos-2-top-features/
One reason people were also waiting upgrade to iOS 9 - was that they were waiting for the delayed Watch OS 2 to be released - and released it is now.
If you are updated to iOS 9 and have an apple watch - then yes I recommend you update to Watch OS 2. Remember the original Watch OS - was really a beta - so Watch OS 2 - is the real software where we get to start seeing what is possible.
First you do need to update to iOS 9 on your iPhone.
Then
quote to install the Watch OS update - make sure apple watch is
1. in range of your iPhone connected to Wifi
2. connected to its charger
3. charged at least 50%
unquote
And yes you do the update from inside the Apple Watch App on your iPhone.
It takes a little bit - 30 minutes or more - for the full download / install / restart process.
Some of what is news is new clock features including faces that include photos from your photo album, and time-lapse.
You can now set favorite contacts directly from your watch.
There is a new time travel mode which allows you to look into the future for the next few hours to see what events you have coming up.
And if it is plugged into the charger and you put it on its side - it enters night stand mode. where it shows you the time in big letters - the charge status and the day and date.

Hi,
Love the show, just thought I would let you know that after upgrading to WatchOS2 my calendars stopped showing up on my watch. Both my personal Gmail calendars and my corporate one.
After lots of testing - repairing etc nothing worked.
Found this article in the apple dev forums.

message/51161#51161
Turns out there is an issue with MDM profiles (our corporate policies) that are stopping the sync. I confirmed this by removing the MDM control and the calendars returned,
Now waiting to see what the MDM providers will say needs changing either their side or Apple's side.
Regards
Russ
Thanks Russ for the heads up on that - and I have heard from a few listeners that had that issue since updating to Watch OS 2. So if you need calendar sync with your office - you may want to actually hold off updating to Watch OS 2.

And We are very happy to have Casper back as a sponsor - Casper is an online retailer and manufacturer of Premium mattresses for a fraction of the price you are used to paying.
Have you ever purchased a mattress by sitting on it for just a few minutes at the store only later to regret it. That happened with us for my Oldest son's mattress. We thought we purchased a good mattress - but oh my - we learned we did not - we would lay down with him to get him to go to sleep and as we tried to get up he would hear us and feel us moving and would wake up - very very frustrating. But we were stuck with the Mattress - However With Casper you get a 100 day risk free trial period. You don't like it you get your money back and they come and pick it back up and donate it to a charity. That said - the mattress they sent is great and is definitely not going back. It is a mix of Latex foam and Memory foam. No noisy springs to wake up your kid or significant other when you get up to sneak some girl scout cookies from the pantry.
Casper did an incredible job on the engineering and feel of this mattress - the nights I record episodes - the boys go and sleep with mom - so when I am done I can sleep on his bed now and my back is not all out of whack in the morning.
But just as important as quality is Pricing and the pricing is really great. Twin Mattresses are just $500, they also have Twin XL for $600, Full for $750, Queen for $850 and then King and Cal King - for $950. That is less than half the price my Parents paid for their King sized mattress and they can't stand their mattress. Like I said you have 100 days to return it risk free. And if you go to casper dot com slash tii and use promo code tii - you will save $50 off those prices.
This is an american made mattress with delivery right now for the US and Canada only and it is free delivery. When said mattress is delivered - it is from UPS - in a squarish box that you think no way is there a mattress in there - But you get a cool little tool to cut open the package and the mattress opens up and expands to form.
A lot of us will be getting the new Apple TV when it comes out and many of us will have it on our bedroom. So you can throw out that spending 1/3 rd of our time in bed stat - it is going to be more. And for the cost of an iPad but not as much as the iPad Pro - is it not worth getting the best nights sleep possible - and that is what you will get with Casper or what your kids will get. Again to Save $50 off of the prices I mentioned go to casper dot com slash tii and use promo code t i i - all lower case on the promo code. again casper dot com / tii - promo code tii to save $50 - thanks Casper for the great mattress for my son and for sponsoring this show.

VOICEMAIL - Jeff_CT_UPDATE_STRANGE_THINGS
Hi Rob,
I installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6 and my IPad Air to last night. I am very disappointed with what I have been presented with. The differences are minimal and it has broken zoom feature on both devices. Neither respond to the three finger double tap and drag gesture for zooming in and out.
Apple has claimed that Siri is much better than before but from what I have seen there is absolutely no difference. Oon the he Siri feature which I understood was going to be available without the device having power, it does not work unless plugged in
The final nail in iOS nines coffin as far as I'm concerned was the delay of releasing I OS2 for my Watch.
As you can tell, I am not at all impressed.n i'm interested to hear what your other listeners think.
Love the show. Keep up the good work.

VOICEMAIL - ALLAN_LA_iOS9_update_from_iOS7
Hey Rob,
In response to the person who did a restore of their phone and lost all of their health data, I thought I'd share my experience with restores. You can save your health data when you do a restore! You will need to first unpaid the watch from your device. This forces a watch backup to be stored on your phone. You can check this by going to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage (iOS 9) / Usage (iOS 8.x) > Manage Storage (under Storage, not iCloud) > Watch. You'll see a list of recent backups, which are performed when the watch is charging. Once you have your watch backup, you'll need to create an iCloud backup, or an ENCRYPTED backup on iTunes. This is done by selecting the "Encrypt Backup" option in iTunes. When you restore your device, just re-pair the watch, and it'll ask you to restore your Apple Watch.
As for my experience upgrading. I haven't had any issues so far. Was very bummed to see that Apple decided to wait on WatchOS 2, but glad they did and not had another update-gate like they did with iOS 8.0.1, which I was affected by. I did come from the Developer Beta and the GM, so my update was very small (<800mb) and only took about 4 or 5 minutes on my work connection.
Also got my iPhone 6S reserved in store, as I will be doing the upgrade program, but I did want to provide you with some insight: there is a second upgrade option Apple is doing in store called the iPhone Installment plan. It's extremely similar to the upgrade program, is you make payments over 24 months, but does not include AppleCare+ or the ability to upgrade yearly. Great for people who are on a carrier financing plan and like that option, but don't want to be tied to a specific carrier. You can still switch whenever you want and continue making payments like normal.
Thanks,
Brandon
Hi Rob,
on item 0364 there was mention that doing an erase and full restore of iPhone looses all of the personal data such as health tracking. There IS a way to preserve that data and restore it. This includes passwords stored, health tracking, etc.
If you connect to a computer running iTunes and do an encrypted backup, then restore from that backup, all the deeper personal data is restored.

Bob,

Thanks to everyone that has joined and thanks for the great posts.
One new post in the G+ community that went up since the last episode came from Paul Haseldine who posted the following question
Quote
Since updating to iOS 9 my 6 plus no longer reorientates when I turn it on its side. I have to open a app before it it changes. Is this a feature of iOS 9.
Unquote
And I also saw requests about icons not rotating when turned.
This has to do with the Zoomed mode. Seems for some updating to iOS 9 - zoomed mode was turned on.
To get the iPhone 6+ back into standard mode - go to Settings —> Display & Brightness —> View - and then select “standard” mode - that will then allow your icons to rotate on the iPhone 6+ as well as apps that are supposed to like Mail and notes and others.
Since the last episode there were also dozens and dozens of other new posts and comments in the Tii Google+ community - which is an Android fan bois free zone and spammer free zone. Yup it is the most civil Google+ community covering iOS.

Also from the Google Plus community was this post from Myron Uecker who wrote:
quote - Something I should mention that's new in iOS 9. It confused me when I first encountered it in the beta so you might encounter it as well. When the screen is locked, double-clicking the home button (or your device thinking you did) brings up Apple Pay now, even if you aren't anywhere near a NFC reader.
Under Settings app for Wallet & Apple Pay there is a setting, "Double-Click Home Button" to turn that back off again. unquote

As I try to remember to do each year - I just go right to the final thought for each reviewer. Here are some final thoughts on the reviews for the iPhone 6S.
From the Verge’s Nilay Patel
quote But if you have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus and you’re not ready to sign up for a yearly phone upgrade program, you might not feel the usual pull to get a new iPhone unless you really want a better front-facing camera. The speed improvements are incremental, the battery life is about the same, and it'll take a while for developers to really make use of 3D Touch. And by the time that happens, it will probably be time to buy an iPhone 7. unquote

BGR had an article titled - 6 ways the iPhone 6S is better than the iPhone 6
First is 3D Touch - and is probably the biggest difference.
Unless you are into selfies - then the S versions front camera is much better. As is the rear camera. And that would be the biggest advantage. Plus there is live photos.
There are now more colors - ok - Rose gold is nice - but ahhh.
The New Housing - if you were one of the handful of people that bent their 6+ or 6 - well the new version is supposed to be much much harder to bend. Well maybe Consumer reports can do a video for us and let us know for sure.
Better Processor and better ram = better performance
Battery Life - it is expected that actual battery life performance will be better - but lets wait for a few tests before throwing this one out as a reason to upgrade.

One of our sponsors today is Trunk Club. visit trunk club dot com slash tii
Trunk club takes the hassle out of clothes shopping.
What trunk club does is a few things - first they ask you what your style is - what type fit you like and what your sizes are - and then they put you in contact with a personal stylist - Mine is Mary - Hi Mary. Then you talk - and discuss what kind of cloths you are looking for - pants or shirts or jackets or whatever - and Then you get a trunk sent out to you full of clothes that fit perfectly and look great - that you get to try on - on your own - in your house - no rush - no pressure - You get to walk around where you get a real feel for the cloths. I had three different Sports coats slash blazers sent in my trunk - All of them looked great and were of course from the best brands - I then went and tried those on with my different shirts I already owned - I then was easily able to figure out the one that worked best with what I already had - AND also was different from what I already owned. So now I have a great new sports coat that really compliments what I already owned - I did wear that sports coat At the LA Podfest. Yes - I am officially a trunk club customer and it could not have been any easier. And again I did get very positive and nice comments about my new sports coat while at the show. I said thanks and quick stated that it came from Trunk club. Both shows the comments and compliments were very nice.
One thing I really liked about the Trunk Club experience is that I was able to try on the different items and see how they did or did not differ from what I already owned. Which was nice as it helps to keep you from buying duplicates. you simply put the items back in the trunk you don’t want.
keep what you like - send back the rest - and there is no pressure to keep anything. No one looking at you as you put items back in the trunk.
Folks this is NOT a subscription service - you only get the trunks you asked for. When you are done - they have already included the return shipping label and tape for the trunk. And they give you a number to call for quick pick up by UPS. All of this can be done without stepping outside your house.
Right now their entire styling service is FREE - even the shipping is free - you only pay for the clothes you keep - to take advantage go right now to trunk club dot com slash t i i - again that is trunk club dot com slash tii for a trunk filled with great looking and fitting clothes that you are going to love wearing.
Thanks Trunkclub for supporting this show and for helping me look snappy at Content Marketing World.

VOICEMAIL - JAN_LV_gym_photo_icon_open_photo_home_screen
Hi Jan - this is what you need to do - first - get that image you want uploaded to a reliable server somewhere - if you happen to have a libsyn account - upload it via FTP into your assets folder.
Then you email yourself the direct URL for that image.
http://assets.libsyn.com/images/tii/harrys_banner.png
In the case of an image it’s URL will be assets dot libsyn dot com slash images slash your show slug slash the file name.
Once you get that in your email - click on it - and then when the image opens - at the bottom of the screen - tap on the box with the arrow coming out and then select add to home screen - and then when ever you need to get to an image in one tap - there it is.
Make sure the file size is smaller - less then 200k in file size - and it will open almost instantly even with a slow data connection.
You don’t need a libsyn account to do this - any service that allows you to upload and get a static URL for that file should work. Some like libsyn will work better than others.

I Am pleased to say my autistic son has finally spoken. The below app is what we have been getting him to use. It did cost $330, but it was worth it, as it helps him to communicate with us.

hi Rob!
The app I use the most on my iPhone is the Podcasts app and I just noticed that in iOS 9, ALL available episodes of any podcast show are now showing up in the app! This is by far my favorite new feature/fix.
Also, in case anyone had episodes in their on-the-go list and is wondering where they went in the new app, they are now in the Up Next list. In order to see it when you use the app for the first time, you need to start playing an episode, then tap on the “now playing” bar at the bottom and then on the icon with three lines and three dots. All your on-the-go episodes should show up in the same order.
To add to the Up Next list, tap the three dots icon next to any podcast episode and then “Add to Up Next” to add the episode to the bottom of the list or “Play Next” to add it to the top. When you do this for the first time, you might be asked if you want to empty the Up Next list, so make sure you don’t do that if you want to keep your old on-the-go episodes.
I hope someone finds this helpful.
Regards,
Eddy in Sweden

Hi Rob.
I funded the Znaps Successful Kickstarter campaign and paid for the privilege. Now apparently I have to enter a discount code in another site to claim it.
Being the suspicious type, this somehow seems wrong to me. I've supported other campaigns and have not experienced this.
Comments?
Regards,
Bob in Hamilton Ontario.
Hi Bob,
They had such a huge number of backers, they needed to go that way.
I used it and it seemed to work fine.
They had been warning before it was over they would go this way - as otherwise it just was not going to be manageable using the Kickstarter tools.
So not something to worry about - actually would be more worried if they did not.

Well that did not take long - and I am talking about the Kickstarter project called Pad & Pencil. Quote Elegantly carry your iPad Pro and Apple Pencil in this high-grade, oil-tanned leather sleeve. unquote
Yup this is for the iPad pro.
And this one had a very modest goal of $4k and has already raised about $5k - so it is funded and has until Nov 2nd at 10:!7 PM CT for you to fund this even more.
Pricing on this is $80. You can choose between Black, Camel and Taupe
You can choose to one with the iPad Pro with the Smart Cover or one with out the smart Cover
So for those that were looking to Apple for an answer for where to put your Apple Pencil - This Kickstarter project is one answer.
Search for Pad & Pencil at kickstarter dot com or in the show notes for ep 365.

Rob,
I think you and the listeners should check this article out to clear up confusion about how big Apple TV apps will be able to get. There's a too long, didn't read at the bottom, too.
Regards,
Jonathan Perry
Seems iMore has an article that clears up some initial misunderstanding about how big apps can get on Apple TV.
The 200 MB app limit is for the initial download bundle. Once you open the app it can download up to 2GB more per app. With up to 20 GB of other resources available in the cloud.
Now it should be pointed out the initial iOS app bundle can be 2GB in size - vs just 200 MB in size for tvOS apps.
Ok - so that is a little different then how it was initially reported - but it seems odd of Apple to restrict the initial download to 200 MB - and have a min storage size of 32 GB - where as iOS devices have an initial download size of 2GB and a min storage of 16 GB - just seems not balanced.
Either way - it sounds like App devs will have plenty of room to work with to get some great looking and image rich apps on Apple TV - even if it means the initial download is only 200 MB.
My sons are already asking about Minecraft and looking forward to playing games on the Apple TV.

http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/15/9330187/remove-
apple-iphone-default-apps-stocks
Tim Cook said something I am not sure I like - and that is Apple may let users delete native apps they don’t use.
Seems in an interview with Buzzfeed news - Mr. Cook said he knows that Customers want this option - but some apps like messages, safari and mail are too core to the system and UI experience to be deleted.
Quote This is a more complex issue than it first appears, There are some apps that are linked to something else on the iPhone. If they were to be removed they might cause issues elsewhere on the phone. There are other apps that aren’t like that. So over time, I think with the ones that aren’t like that, we’ll figure out a way for you to remove them.” unquote
I don’t like the idea that people could uninstall the Podcasts App. If they leave that as a critical app - sure I am fine with Compass and news and tips being removed - but Podcasts app - noooooooo - that will hurt podcasting.
Don’t expect this until at least iOS 10 if even then. Personally I would rather just see the min size of an iPhone increased to the 32 GB size it should have been this time around.

http://www.iphonehacks.com/2015/09/iphone-
6s-4k-video-space.html
So folks have already found out the file size of 4K videos on the new S level iPhones. A one minute video at 4K and 30 fps will take up 375 MB of space. vs 1080p HD video at 30 fps which takes up 130 MB of space vs 60 MB of space for a 720p 30 fps video.
So that means on a 16 GB iPhone where only about 12 GB is available. If you had not other apps installed and no other resources taking up space - you could store about 30 minutes of Video recorded at 4k.
Of course you will not have Zero apps and resources - at best you will have 6 GB of space available or around 15 Minutes of space for 4K videos.
a 128 GB iPhone will get you over 5 Hours of video storage - assuming similar amount of apps as the iPhone with 6 GB of space.

VOICEMAIL - Rich_16GB_iPhone
Hi Rob,
I had a theory about why Apple is calling Force Touch 3DTouch on the iPhone. I'm not an Watch owner, but I believe Force Touch is a single "level." On the iPhone, they talk about pressing lightly to preview, then harder to "pop in," which sounds like there may be more than one level. I could be misinterpreting it, but seems logical.
Also, I heard something that makes a lot of sense for why there's still a 16GB model iPhone on the market. Credit goes to Adam Christianson of the Maccast for this one. He mentioned that a lot of Enterprises use the 16GB versions because they limit their employees on what content they can install on their work phones. This made a lot of sense.
Thanks,
Lou Valencia

Hi Rob,
I have a good question for your show.
I want to preorder iPhone 6s and pay full price for the phone
(no subsidy).
Which if any of the versions of the iPhone 6s (T-Mobile,AT&T,Verizon,
Sprint) comes unlocked?
I know that it is not advertised as unlocked, but I have a feeling
some or all of the versions are unlocked assuming i pay full price for
the phone.
Thanks,
Itamar
West Hills, CA
Hi Itamar - Per an agreement with the FCC the Verizon smartphone that have LTE need to be unlocked. So that is the one you will want if you are want to pre-order an unlocked iPhone - or you can go to the Apple Store and get one from them unlocked - it just might be a while before they have stock.
Hi Rob,
I have an iPhone 5s that I really like however, I really want to start using apple pay and nfc functionally. Almost all of the stores I shop at regularly support apple pay so it would really add to my iOS experience. At first I thought about upgrading just to the 6 or 6plus but I figured I should wait to see what the new features would be announced for the 6s and the 6s plus to see if it would be better to go for the latest model. The other thing I'm considering is maybe keeping my iPhone 5s and go for an apple watch instead. I currently have a pebble but as you know it doesn't do nearly as much as the apple watch. If you were me what would be the better option out of the three? The 6, 6s, or watch?
Thanks for the show and keep up the great work
-Sincerely Gabriel from Sacramento
Hey Rob
I thought this was one of the better events
- I didn’t miss the business statistics at all
- I’m not a watch person (yet) so that was the least interesting to me.
- The iPad Pro looks nice - but the real wow factor combination with the Pencil. I don’t have a real reason to buy yet though.
- The 3D touch on the iPhones looks great too, but I think we’re holding off on upgrades for now - all purchased iPhones here.
- I’ll bet we will buy The Apple TV - it’s just a matter of time. If it can pause material streamed over AirPlay I think we’ll have a Holiday sale. Right now we stream a lot of content from an iMac in another room. In order to pause / resume we have to run down to the Mac. If not we’ll probably wait until there are a few great apps. Amazon app!?
The recorded stream of the keynote worked almost flawlessly - the last one was painfully bad. And hey I sort of like "One Revolution” … hadn’t ever heard them but they were pretty good.
Nothing was too awkward - except maybe Eddie Cue’s shirt 😁
Thanks,
-Dan

bank-wants-you-to-swap-your-swimmers-for-an-iphone-6s/
Ok - this one seems too funny to be true - but it has been widely reported - so sure - lets go with it. Seems in China in the past and even very recent past people were trying to sell organs to get an iPhone - well now they can sell a part of them that does not require an surgery to remove - actually no pain at all - quite the opposite. A Sperm Bank in China is looking to pay for donations with enough cash to get a new iPhone - there are certain criteria you need to meet - such as being over 5’ 4” tall, and possess a college degree and have no genetic diseases. I guess that gives a whole new definition to force touch.
Insert RIM SHOOT here
In what I would assume is completely un-related news - it appears the Fist bump had replaced the hand shake at Apple Stores in China.

Thanks to Aurelian Radu from the G+ community for the link to the page on Apple.com where they have the pricing for all the countries for iCloud. So sorry for everyone outside the US when I get all US centric on pricing - it is just hard to go through pricing for all countries where we have downloads which is basically all countries.
