For all of us US T-mobile users that signed up between September 1st 2013 and September 16th 2015 - It appears that t-Mobile’s partner Experian - had a slight ummm data breach. which I mean for a company that is doing credit checks and has your personal info and social and other details - Yeah I mean I can see how they let that happen. Please note the issue here was not with t-mobile but with their soon to be vendor that does credit checks.
And again I said us - because I signed up with them September 2014. Sweet.
apparently all effected will be notified in writing - This according to t-mobile CEO John Legere - who to his credit did not hide when news of this broke - he actually went on to twitter and answered peoples questions.
He also said that T-mobile customer will also be notified when you logging your mytmobile.com account.
He did say if there is no notification when you sign in all is fine. But best to take advantage of free protection services being offered by t-mobile right now.
There is a link in the show notes to the page T-mobile put up about this. Again - check your account and see if you are affected.

http://betanews.com/2015/09/20/adblock-plus-defends-ad-
blocking-applauds-peace-and-backs-crystal-for-ios/
I have not said much on the Adblock feature in iOS 9 - and the controversy that was brought up by Marco Arment - mostly because I was trying to research on this and see if my gut feeling on this was wrong.
I went and even attended a webinar about Adblocking from the Folks at TapInfluence - who are definitely Anti-AdBlocking.
But here is what I thought was interesting in the webinar - in one slide they had - that was titled Why People Block Ads.
The main reasons were 1. Ads Obscure content, 2. Privacy 3. Bandwidth 4. Slow Website Load 5. Because they can.
But they missed a big reason for mobile - Battery Life. If you are browsing on mobile devices and downloading lots and lots of extra content - sometimes 10 times or more content without ad blockers then with ad blockers - then adding an ad blocker if you do a lot of surfing the web makes a lot of sense. Because it is not like you actually look at those ads - so you will be missing nothing - and saving battery life to boot.
By they way I am not going to build up to where I stand - I will state it right now - I am all for ad blocking - the issue as I see it is that Ads have become such a burden on web browsing - that they make the entire experience bothersome - I sometimes I find an article that is really good and I have to debate on if I even want to link to it - because it is so overrun with ad crap. Pop ups - redirects to get to the article - or video ads that start on their own - it is all really annoying and as mentioned also a drain on your iPhones resources.
Per the issue with Marco Arment - if you are not aware - he had a very successful ad blocker he released called Peace - it was so successful it made it to the number one paid app in iTunes app store for a couple of days - and then Marco pulled the plug - because he felt guilty for suppling users a tool that he felt would be used to bypass ads and cost content creators money. Also it seems he may have been beat up by his publisher for doing it.
See that is the other side of this argument - that without the ads there would be no content.
Marco said on his blog post quote
I still believe that ad blockers are necessary today. but I've learned over the last few crazy days that I don't feel good making one and being the arbiter of what's blocked,
unquote
Marco’s app used a data base from Ghostery to decide what to block. So technically he was not the arbiter of what was being blocked - he was more like the Executioner of Ads - and Ghostery was the judge handing do the sentence. But in either case - Marco did not feel right swinging the sword that was being used to cut off the heads of Advertisers.
I am saddened to see Marco had pulled the app - and disappointed.
But I am happy he proved there is a huge market for this type of product - and that means those sites like iMore and BGR and others that are littered with ads and scripts and pop up and pop overs and pop wherevers - they need to understand that there are limits to how much people will endore when it comes to hijaking the browsing experience. And since he showed there is a demand for it - there are now many others more then willing to pick up that sword and start a swinging. And good for them.
Lets talk about how bad some sites are out there - I mentioned the iMore site before - the load time for the main page is 22.43 seconds. BGR’s load time is 23.09 seconds, For comparison - Daring fireball site loads in 2.11 seconds, Marco Arments site - Marco.org loads in 1.8 seconds and Today in iOS loads in 1.52 seconds. But I will work to get that down to under a second.
Look there are ways to have sites that are not so user unfriendly - and the reason again for Ad blockers is because of sites that just chew up so many resources and it slows down the browser experience quite a bit.

https://brooksreview.net/2015/09/content-blocker-test/
There is a good review of Ad blockers at brooksreview dot net.
Interestingly his results were close to mine when looking with no Ad blockers active. As he also tested the iMore site. not saying they are getting a name for a bad user experience - but.. Rene - you might just want to rethink things over there. Just sayin.
Anyway they found with no blockers on iMore loaded in 18 seconds. With the best ad blocker that was reduced to 2.3 seconds - that blocker was 1Blocker
Daring fireball loaded in 2.2 seconds with no blockers and 1.3 seconds with the best blockers - Peace, Crystal and Selenium.
He tested a bunch of other sites as well.
His results came down to this - for the fastest Ad blockers.
1. 1Blocker was the fastest over all.
2. Ad Block Multi
3. Adamant and Blockr 1.0.1 tied for 3rd.
Now here is one issue - 1Blocker whitelists The Deck Ads by default - which means you need to add a custom rule to block those. That said - Right now - 1Blocker which is free - is the one I am using and testing. By the way once you install the Ad blocker - go and launch the app on your home screen - this will allow it to run and get the updated list of sites to block. then click on start using - and click the big button to turn on. Then go to settings - safari and turn it on. Oh and note there is an in app purchase to allow you to block more then one type of content at a time. There is a block ads switch, a block trackers switch, a block twitter widgets, and so on. As a free app you only get one item. You have to spend $2.99 to block all or multiple categories.
There is also a nice list of Ad blockers over at the loop insight.com
Once you install an Ad or really Content blocker - go to Settings then Safari and scroll down to Content blockers - and flip the switch to enable / disable your content blocker of choice.
Here is one piece of advice I have seen mentioned many places - running multiple different Content blockers at once does not make things faster and in most cases slows things down.
Again - let me know what Content blocker you have settled on or decided against - 206- 666- 6364 - that 206-moon-dog - or send an email to today in iOS At gmail dot com.

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2015/10/will-losing-its-apple-
developer-account-hurt-ifixit
I had a this next item sent in from a bunch of people - some made at apple and some taking Apples side.
And that is about iFixit - Getting a dev unit for $1 and then going and tearing it down and here is the important part - putting up the video and post about the tear down.
Because of that Apple said you broke your developer agreement - where you said if you received the unit you would not report about it.
My Opinion is this - APPLE Had to revoke their dev license. I know I joked about devs sending in their reviews of the new Apple TV - or actually not to. Wink Wink. But In this case iFixit accepted the terms of the $1 unit - and then went and broke those terms - they even said they knew it could get them booted. And really Apple again had to to send the message - nope you can’t do that.
This is not talking a little about a new feature in iOS 9.X beta - this is a full fledged tear down and posting of video of said tear down - of a device they explicitly agreed they would not do that.
So again don’t be mad at Apple - they just did what they had to do.
15:12
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Apple+
TV+4th+Generation+Teardown/49046
Ok - since I was not one Apple sent a review unit to - I have no qualms talking about the iFixit tear down.
So what did we learn - Well essentially not much. I mean nothing worthy of getting your developer license revoked - that is for sure.
It just verified a lot of what was already talked about by Apple per the device. The Optical audio out is gone. The micro USB port is replaced by a USB C port.
One thing that was new and we learned from the tear down is that there is 2 GB of RAM - which makes sense - as the biggest argument against too much RAM is the battery draw - but since this is not mobile - battery drain is not an issue.
So Apps should run very smooth on the apple TV 4th gen.
Overall they gave it a repairability score of 8 out of 10.
We also are hearing from those that did not keep their lips sealed - that The new Apple TV - will support two 3rd party remotes and the Apple TV remote at the same time. So a max of 3 connected players at any one time.
This my kids will be bummed about - as they like to play up to 4 players at once on minecraft and their NBA game on the Xbox. Will be interesting to see if Apple makes an update at some point to allow up to 4 players at once - which really is kind of a standard in set top box games or even my Atari - just sayin.

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2015/10/amazon-will-ban-
sales-of-the-apple-tv-and-googles-chromecast-later-this-month
Another item a lot of people sent in about is the story that Amazon will be banning sales of the Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast later this month.
according to Bloomberg no Apple TV or Chromecast devices will be available for purchase on Amazon.com starting on October 29th.
Amazon is supposed to have sent an email to marketplace sellers with regards to the removal - and said no new listing will be allows and existing inventory will disappear later in the month.
According to Amazon quote
Over the last three years, Prime Video has become an important part of Prime, It’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion.
unquote
Now it is very possible that the 4th Gen Apple TV will be listed in the Amazon App store - as it could support Prime Video - if Apple allows the App in the Apple TV App store. It could also be a move Amazon is doing because Apple rejected an Amazon Prime Video App - and this ban is a barging chip they are using to get their Apple TV app approved.
Or it could just mean Amazon is scared of the new Apple TV 4th gen and wants to get rid of all competition from their store.
I guess we will know more once a launch date is announced for the Apple TV.

Voice Mail - Warren_FL_ordered_afterLaunch
Hi Rob,
Just let you know, I ordered my IPhone 6s Plus at my ATT store on Sept. 14 (the 128 gig gold, but couldn't get rose color).
I was all ready for Oct 19th. I got an email from ATT on the 22nd of Sept. That the phone was shipped, I was shocked, I received the phone Friday afternoon, the official launch date. And ATT said they will give me $200 for my 64 gig 5s.
Regards,
Roy S
Warren and Roy - Thanks for the feedback - I wonder if that is something we need to be worried about - is it - Apple has better supply - or is it demand is much lower over all this time around. Or Maybe it is just AT&T where the demand has dropped.
Hi Rob,
Received the iPhone 6s Plus 128gig version on the 25th and found it to be laggy and occasionally the transition from one screen to another would hang and the icons would become super large, stalled in their transition to the next screen as if the processor was busy with other actions.
What caused me to return it was the failure to down load apps. I set this up as a new device and was downloading the apps I actually use, when it stopped downloading. The app held at the "waiting" stage. This happened with any app I tried including the Apple Store app.
As a test I simultaneously attempted to download the Hilton Hotel app and my work iPhone 6 breezed through in moments and the iPhone 6s Plus began the process, circle loaded up l, but the data never downloaded.
I reset the phone and the problem persisted.
For $1000 that was enough for me, back it went. I will keep the 5s for another year. By then more devs will put the Taptic Engine to good use.
Love the show and always look forward to the next episode and listener observations and comments.
Regards,
Mike from Chicago
Mike thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear of your issue - but I think this next feedback

We are now over 2,500 members in our Google+ community and growing.
Thanks to everyone that has joined and thanks for the great posts.
One new post in the G+ community that went up since the last episode came from Wayne Henderson who posted the following question
Quote
I love my new iPhone 6s, EXCEPT for the Touch ID, since it is now too lightning fast. Is there anyway to adjust it? Or, is it something we can hope for a fix in an iOS update?
Unquote
Wayne - not saying that sounds like a oh poor me my new iPhone is just too fast post or anything - but.
Ok - here were some of the responses.
From Brian sullivan - he suggested using the sleep / wake button or an unregistered finger.
Chanah Vo says quote its extra extra fast. well all get used to it soon.
And other advice was to basically un-reigster a finger and then re-learn that finger - but just the middle and not the tip of the finger. Then you can push the home button with the just the tip - hmmm seems there is a joke there I am missing - any way - just use the tip — - - of your finger on the home button and it will wake up the screen to see your messages.
Or you know you could just downgrade to a slower older iphone.
Since the last episode there were also dozens and dozens of other new posts and comments in the Tii Google+ community - which is an Android fan bois free zone and spammer free zone. Yup it is the most civil Google+ community covering iOS.
Folks Go to today in iOS dot com slash community to join in.
And thanks to all 2500+ of you already in the community and contributing.
Also from the Google Plus community was this post from Timmy T who wrote:
quote Google Fixed the Google+ app. unquote
To which Craig said he did not know it was broken - and Timmy replied saying the issue was you couldn’t read whole posts if they were long by just tapping on it - you had to tap on comment in order to read the entire post.
and now it is working correctly where you can see the whole post by taping on it. So Timmy thanks for the heads up on that.

http://social.techcrunch.com/gallery/15-hidden-features-
tucked-away-in-ios-9/
I wanted to talk a little about a couple of features in iOS 9 - that some or many do not get.
1. Is the Keyboard doubles as a trackpad - that is for those with iPads and the latest iPhones - but that requires 3D touch for the later on the iPads - just use two fingers at once on the keyboard to activate. this is a nice feature especially when typing a large text document or email and needs to move easily around to do some editing.
2. Picture in Picture Video - new iPads only. To activate this start watching a video in safari - tap on the video with one finger - then in the controls pick the icon that looks like a box inside a box. You can then move that around as needed.
The box with the new video will float about any other apps you go to. So this is a nice way to watch a sporting event and answer emails or comment in social media. Like wow - I drove for 9+ hours to see this football game and it seems the team forgot to send their defense up here or their offense. Oh wait - the offense is just late - a little to late. Oh and look they missed the bus to Cincinnati as well. Just saying.
So sports fans rejoice - you can now watch your games and write snarky I just fell off the bandwagon type comments at the same time.

http://www.applecontroll.com/2015/09/iphone-6s-teardown-
treatment-specs.html
One spec uncovered by iFixit that I did not mention on the last episode is that the A9 Processor for the 6S and 6S+ is clocked at 1.82 GHz. This is a nice speed bump up from the 1.38 GHz speed of the A8 processor in the 6 and 6+
If you look at the single core benchmarks for each iPhone generation - the A9 processor gives the biggest jump in RAW benchmark scores in the history of the iPhone.
From the 2G to 3G - there was no change - it was the same processor - so that was the worst update.
We then go from a bench mark of 143 to 155 from the 3G to 3GS
And from 155 to 212 when we get to the 4.
The 4S - single core speed stayed basically the same coming in at 217 - but its dual core jumped to 410. Still most apps run single core - so the 4S increase was actually not all that great or even noticeable for most applications and uses. Still the 4S is being updated and supported by iOS 9 - so it is a nice little work horse of a phone.
The 5 Really sped things up jumping to a 707 score That is over 3.2 times increase. That was the biggest multiple increase of any update and really offered the biggest noticeable improvement.
The 5S was no slouch jumping up to 1398 - almost a 2X increase. If you increased from a 4S to a 5S - they were worlds apart.
The 6 however was just a small bump up to 1615. Which is not much of an increase at just 1.16 times the past generation. The 5S and the 6 and 6+ performance wise - are very similar when running most apps.
The 6S jumps up to 2556 - for a single core - which smokes all other smartphones by a wide margin and is 1.58 times faster than the 6. The 941 jump in bench mark tests clearly is the biggest. But from a % increase was the 3rd best in the history of the iPhone. That said - if you are increasing even from the 6 or 6+ - the speed increase in noticeable - according to almost all reporting in. In some cases as we heard before it is too quick.
I almost have enough data now to do my iPhone comparison chart update and give a score to the iPhone 6S and 6S+ - hopefully next episode - which is what I said last episode. But the more I read on benchmark tests - the more impressed I am with what Apple did under the hood with this update.
It also make me very excited for the iPad Pro - and what it will be able to do.

For iBook users Apple has made some changes for what iBook authors can do - and this is good for both groups.
From Apple quote
Updates for iBooks on iOS and Mac
Readers can now choose a new reading mode in iBooks called Gray. The new mode offers white text on a gray background and makes reading on an iOS device or Mac easier on the eyes.
Additionally, with the latest version of iBooks, readers can multitask. For example, you can read a book and browse the web with Safari, side-by-side.
With iBooks for iOS, you can use Spotlight to search for books by title, author name, or series name. This will show you books you already have in your library and books available on the iBooks Store - such as books that are more compelling then the one that made you want to multi-task with safari. If you already started reading the book, we will also show you how much of the book you’ve already read.
To get the new version of iBooks for iOS, update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to iOS 9. To get the new iBooks for Mac, install OS X El Capitan v10.11.
Updates for iBooks Author
With the latest version of iBooks Author, we have improved the import function for Pages and Microsoft Word documents. For best results, you should use section breaks between chapters when you write your book in Pages or Microsoft Word.
If you’re using one of the EPUB templates, you can now also add Pop-Over widgets with text or images to your book.

And speaking of iBooks - On September 30th quote Apple® today announced that Apple Music™, iTunes® Movies and iBooks® are now available to customers in China. Launching with millions of songs in its catalog, Apple Music in China features music from artists including Eason Chan, Li Ronghao, JJ Lin and G.E.M., as well as a wide range of international artists including Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and many more. Fans can also rent or purchase movies from a great selection of Chinese studios as well as Hollywood blockbusters on the iTunes Store®, in addition to enjoying paid and free books from the iBooks Storeā . For the first time, customers in China will have access to Apple’s entertainment ecosystem with music, movies books and podcasts right at their fingertips. unquote
I added in the part about podcasts - because clearly it was an error of omission and was supposed to be in that press release. Right.
In any case - if you are in China there is now more content available for you via the Apple Eco-system. So please check out my free iBook - Podcast101 - A new copy is in the works - with the new iAuthor. But the current one still has all you need to go from Zero to Podcast in one evening.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/htc-president-calls-
monthly-android-security-updates-unrealistic/
Thanks to all that sent in this beauty of an article.
It is about a quote from HTC’s president. This with regards to Googles announcement that they are going to roll out monthly Android security updates. What was his quote - well that it is quote unrealistic unquote. Seems unless you have an android phone purchased directly from Google and unlocked to any carrier - the idea of monthly updates is just not one HTC thinks can be supported - given that most devices also have a carrier level of software - and that means even if HTC does update their software for ALL their phones every month - then the carriers need to get behind that and make their updates / approvals on those changes as well. And I would have to agree with HTC’s president - that is not only unrealistic - it is fantasy land - with Peter Pan - flying boats and ticking alligators type thinking. there is no way the carriers are going to support updates for ALL the android phones they carry now not to mention the ones they carried last quarter or last year or two or three years ago.
Yet with the iPhone 4S - which was released 4 years ago - when there is a security update - all iPhone 4S owners can get it that day is they want. That is a big big big difference between the iOS eco-system and the Android frago-system.

Voice Mail - Colby_CO_Beta9.1_6_digit_code
Hi Colby - I think you have a setting that changed. I just updated my iPhone 4S to 9.1 beta 3 - and that is not the issue at all - that phone stayed on its traditional 4 Digit code. Actually for the iPhone 4S running beta 3 of 9.1 at least there is no option to even get to 6 digits on the pass code.
Hi Rob,
I setup or trained my iphone 6S plus siri since day 1 when i got it and on episode 366 when the caller said “H E Y - Siri" my Siri did not wake up at all since it was not my voice (yayyyy) - worked as planned.
Anyway i love my iphone 6s plus and my wife and i are definitely loving live photos

Hi Rob! Philip from Green Bay.
Sorry I missed you when you came to town! I was camping in the Nicolet National Forest last week, only got back the night before the big game. Just catching up, and heard you were in town for Monday Night Football. I hope you had a great time in northeastern Wisconsin, despite the outcome of the game. The Pack and A-Rod were really on, that night!
Oh, IOS stuff:
I had a 2nd gen iPad that no longer would charge, and had gotten extremely doggy anyway. Since I didn't want to buy a year-old normal size iPad, I was forced to choose between the iPad Pro and the new Mini 4. I'm so glad!! The Mini 4 is a beautiful machine, barely smaller screen than a normal iPad, very fast, very light, more portable, and half the cost of the Pro. The Pro looks cool, but way too big, heavy, and pricey for my needs. The Mini is fantastic!
Take care, Rob! Hope the Pack sees the Chiefs in the SB "L"!!!)
Regards,
Phil S
Thanks Phil for the feedback. The trip went fine to and from - using Siri to get us around was easy. One thing I really liked about the Apple Watch - was sometimes I would have a podcast going when driving - but the Apple watch would remain focused on the maps - showing upcoming turns and how far to the next turn. Another thing I really like about the Apple watch - when using driving directions with maps - it vibrates when you should be turning. It really is a great companion to the iPhone for road trips.
Phil per your comments on the Chiefs and the supper bowl - Yikes - it is looking really doubtful the Chiefs even make the playoffs - at 1 and 3 - we would need to go 10 and 2 to finish out the season to have a realistic shot at the playoffs. And that is something that would be shocking if they could do it - as they just have not looked like a team that can win 10 out of 12 games.

the-worlds-most-versatile-iphone-6-6-compan?ref=project_link
Thanks to the folks running the kickstarter project - XI.i.con - the world’s most versatile iphone 6S / 6S+ companion over at kickstarter dot com.
also worlds worst name - XI.i.Con - really. Ok - ignoring the bad name - which ranks up there with iPad. What they are offering is actually a neat device - and they have two versions - on for the 6 and 6S - and another for the 6+ and 6S+
To better describe it they say - quote The magnetic dock, sync, and wireless charging all in one that also acts as a portable battery for your iPhone unquote
So in a nutshell - it is a case that allows for wireless charging in a dock that also doubles as an external battery pack.
There is even a proximity alarm for your phone and the dock. When they get to far apart an alarm goes off.
They have a goal of $30k - and have raised $8k so far. This one has until November 5th at 12:14 AM CT to be funded.
Pricing while they last is $49. There is less than 20 left at that price - then it goes tot $54.
That price will get you the XI Case and XI Powerdock and a free 2X charging cable. Delivery is set to December 2015.
Search for XI dot i dot con - at kickstarter dot com or in the show notes for ep 367.

Hi rob,
I've been a long android user straight back from the nexus one, right upto to Samsung note 4, it's cost me a fortune keeping up with the so called flagship phones, so I decided a couple of months ago to try iOS. I didn't want to go all in on the iPhone 6, so I brought a second hand iPhone 5, WOW everything worked perfect, never had to keep doing soft resets everyday, I'm writing this on my new iPhone 6s 64 gb, I'm a huge convert now, I'll be having Apple TV when it comes out and the new mini iPad 4 for xmas, great show rob love listening and your little digs at android
Cheers from Wayne in Walsall UK

ios-9-1-beta-4/
Apple released today the 4th Beta of iOS 9.1. The new beta offers bug fixes to past betas of 9.1. And also a larger emoji set and the option to disable contact photos in the messages app. and there are some new wallpapers as well. Overall a minor update on the beta - with the bug fixes seeming the biggest part of this version of the beta.

Hi Rob,
I installed 9, it was working fine, except my texting was acting weird kept on wanting to record a message when I tried to text instead of allowing me to type my message then installed 9.1, that seemed to fix that problem. Today I installed the new notes and after I did I lost all my saved notes. Anyone know how to get my old notes back? They were on my iCloud account. I googled the issue but couldn't find anything that helped. Also, this is the first time since the first iPhone that I didn't order the new phone, I don't see enough in the iPhone 6s to upgrade yet.
Thanks,
Dan from Vancouver
Hey, Rob!
For the guy with the gym membership card wanting an easier way to access his card on his iPhone, I have been using a very handy app since pre-passbook/wallet called Key Ring by Mobestream Media. You can literally store any card you can think of, with many membership/loyalty cards already in its database. And, for those that are not, you simply take a picture of the front and back of your card, and the app generates a scannable barcode. Also, with the Handoff feature in iOS, and most likely the gym you attend, the Key Ring icon will appear on your device's Lock Screen in the bottom left-hand corner when you approach the gym. Hope you find this useful!

JACOBÍ
Hi Rob,
-A recent caller wanted a quick way to access his gym card as a photo. I use the CardStar app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cardstar/id301460311?mt=8 to store all my loyalty and membership cards. I keep it on the app home screen for quick access. It uses location to pull up my nearby cards. So, if I'm in Staples, it shows the Staples logo and other nearby card logos. I tap the logo and the card is displayed.
-I have an answer as to why users recklessly forge ahead with an IOS update soon after release. Reason 1: for the adrenaline rush. Same irrational high you get when putting money on the Raiders to win the Super Bowl or betting on a long shot in the 6th race at Santa Anita. Reason two: morbid fascination.
-A tip for Verizon customers: Most Verizon outlets in my area are contract sellers, meaning that the employees are not Verizon employees. My family makes a point of driving to an official Verizon store staffed by Verizon employees because we find the staff to be more knowledgeable and the service to be more comprehensive and of better quality.
Now for my dilemma: I am eligible for phone upgrade at the end of October and want to stay at the basic price point. This leaves me with these options:
iPhone 6s 16GB - Pros: latest performance and features Cons: Battery life (relative to 6S+), Photos will take up more space. Is there a way to choose a lower resolution than 12 megapixels?
iPhone 6 64GB - Pros: 4x the storage Cons: Battery life, no 3D touch, new camera features, etc.
iPhone 6 Plus 16GB - Pros: Excellent battery life. Easier to read screens with my aging eyes. Cons: No 3D touch, new camera features, etc. Too honking big?
IOS 9 promises smaller app sizes because downloads will not include graphics and code for other IOS devices and models but this will probably be better assessed over the next few months.
At this point, I am leaning toward the iPhone 6 64GB. How does iPhone 6 battery life compare to the iPhone 5S? I have been disappointed with battery performance on my 5S. I cannot go a day at work without having to go out to my car to retrieve my charging cable.
We exchanged emails some time ago in which we both foresaw, erroneously, Apple moving away from 16GB entry level storage. It is becoming nearly impossible for most users to get by with a 16GB phone. I have to prune my apps, photos, podcasts and music constantly to maintain a little breathing space. I also run the Memory and Disk Scanner Pro app (99 cents, works great) several times a week to reclaim precious space.
Apple promotes the following fantastic apps as FREE! but they take up around 2.4 GB, in their versions for iPhone 5S. That is 15% of the storage space of a 16GB unit.

And that is before any files are created with the apps. The 16GB level seems obsolete. I can't imagine that the difference in manufacturing cost of a 64GB and 16GB units is $100. I suppose that Apple is subsidizing the cost other features with the premium price on storage. Kind of the way a Tylenol is billed at $27.00 while hospitalized.
