I will talk about this on the next episode - but long of the short - I talked with 3 different people within the FCC that work on Qualification of cell phones and other devices.  I asked them if a manufacturer would actually need a new FCC qual if they were going from an Edge phone to a 3G phone.  Well we have a split decision - 2 felt that as long as they did not change their baseband frequencies - No they would not.  The third person - who the first two pointed me to as being the better source - said that it would depend on the difference in the phone.  He felt that a simple software update would not need a new qual - but if there were new hardware on the transmission side - even at the same baseband freq's - then yes it would need some sort of qual.

What does this mean?
Well - That most likely Apple will need to get approval from the FCC before introducing the 3G iPhone.  So we should get some warning prior to the official release of the 3G iPhone but then again maybe not.

Also let me say the People I talked to were very nice and very helpful.

Apps - 0002 - Capture
Title - Capture

Version - 0.1.0-6

Category - Utility

Available from - Installer.app

Review - Nice Screen shoot utility for the iPhone.  Once activated - it places a floating box above the screen that you can move around.  When you have a screen image you want to capture - simply click on "snap" the floating box disappears for a second - when it comes back the screen shot has been taken and is placed in your Camera roll.  Works very well with v. 1.1.4.  The image above was taken with Capture.

Conclusion - If you are looking for a screen capture program - look no further - this is a really good and clean app.

Apps - 0001 - Othello Title - Othello

Version - 1.2-1

Category - Game

Available from - Installer.app

Review - The UI is nice and works very well.  It makes moves quickly so no real lag waiting for it to make a move.  The screen is stretched and that does make it look odd - not a true square.

Big problem with the game is that once the computer runs out of moves - even if you still have moves available - it ends the game.  This is a huge bug in the software and needs to be fixed.  Other problem is the game is pretty easy to beat and makes lots of dumb moves.

Conclusion - best to check out another game until at a min they fix the bug with the game ending early.
