Hi Today in iOS,
I was listening to your episode 0195. You mention about iPhone rumors.
I wanted to share my experience in this part of the world, China.
I really hated all these iPhone rumors from all these popular blogs and media. In China newspapers and TV news, they published these rumors and claimed it as fact from the internet. And these Chinese would listen to these news as authoritative answers.
As an ex-staff of Apple first tier distributor for many years, I knew how to search and filter to confirm Apple products launch and information. When these Chinese told me about all these rumors, I made an effort to explain to them that they were not true and sort out for them what were reliable as valid information. I took the time and effort to educate them. All I got from the Chinese were, I was bull shitting and they claimed the news on TV as the legitimate answer.
Latest example, Let Talk About iPhone event announced on 4 October. A bunch of Chinese telling me iPhone 5 is launching on the forth. It was confirmed by one of the newspapers, again claiming the fact came from internet. As usually, I took the time to explain there was no mention of iPhone 5 launch on 4 October. And all I got and made a fool of myself was, I am stupid for not reading that newspaper.
So when the day came, the event mentioned the new iPhone was a 4S, I did a handful of live tweets on my Chinese version of Twitter announcing the arrival of 4S. And here were some of the replies:
"iPhone 4 is already selling in China. I am waiting for iPhone 5." (Follower thinks iPhone 4 and 4S are the same.)
"iPhone 4S is out, then I am waiting for iPhone 5." (Follower thinks Apple going to release 4 first, then 5.)
"I am waiting to buy iPhone 5." (Another follower still do not understand iPhone 4S just announced while I tweeted.)
"Apple failed to create iPhone5. They are in bad shape." (LOL!)
"4 and 4S are the same, I am not buying." (Only black and white to choose, so is still the same.)
"Competitors are going to release iPhone 5 first." (Since Apple cannot create version 5, competitors will do it for Apple.)
"Nokia also sells iPhone 5?" (I replied back: "Coming soon!")
I was very disappointed all these years with all these rumors that were created to increase viewership or ads incomes. I really hope we could voice out through Tii and asked fellow bloggers and website owners to be responsible with their contents. China still have more than half the population of people that were not educated and no analytics skills to know what is true or false.
With all these rumors coming up every now and then, and people kept asking me similar questions over and over again, Last year I had started my own iPhone App Review blog to chronicles these events. I really wish my blog do not exist and continue to use internet for dependable information. Sad to say, these days were over.
Sadly, few days ago, a follower asked me why there was no iPhone 5 but another version 4. She was saving up everyday readying to buy version 5. She was so disappointed and asked me were there be a 5? By the way, until today, the Chinese are still brooding over why no iPhone 5.
So now you understand why the China government blocked Twiiter, Facebook, Googles and many other foreign sites.
I am Hosea, A Singaporean fan of Tii living in China.
