One of my listeners has confirmed the iPhone 09 will be announced next week and going over with them their "investigative" journalism techniques I am 100% convinced the iPhone 09 will be announced next week.  My source confirmed that qualification testing has been completed and Apple was informed today (morning time PST) of the completion of those tests.  So I put my neck out there and state - the iPhone 09 will be announced early next week.  No date on availability.  I will talk about this a little more on Episode 81 of Today in iPhone - coming out tomorrow night - late.

News from Wizzard Media with regards to iPhone Apps.

PITTSBURGH, PA – JUNE 3, 2009 - Wizzard Media (NYSE Amex: WZE), the world’s largest podcasting network announced today the acquisition of the exclusive distribution rights to six iPhone Apps.  These Apps are currently for sale through Apple’s App Store for use on iPhones and the iPod Touch including: Blue Attack, OmNomNom, Sudoku Unlimited, TouchScan, Blue Defense and Sudoku Classic.
Based on current sales figures, Wizzard estimates these Apps will generate over $228,000 in annual revenues, after the standard deduction of Apple’s 30%, for the Company before any increased sales from marketing the Apps via the Wizzard Podcast Network to iPhone and iPod Touch users.  Through advertising and marketing by Wizzard’s thousands of podcast producers to their highly engaged audience of iPhone and iPod users, Wizzard believes sales could be significantly higher on an annual basis.  The Company plans to continue to acquire the rights for up to 100 already launched and approved iPhone Apps to provide podcast producers with a continuous stream of fresh, paid advertising for their episodic shows, app developers with increased sales revenues and provide for profitable App sales for Wizzard...
“The Apple App Store has been an incredible success since its launch last year and we believe iTunes is the greatest digital media sales channel in the world. We know through our podcast distribution statistics that they attract a tremendous amount of media consumers,” says Chris Spencer, Wizzard Media CEO.  “The simplicity of a consumer hearing about a great App from their favorite podcast and being able to pause the podcast, click to the App store and buy, all on their iPhone, makes us believe that this could be a great success for podcasters app developers and for Wizzard.  The fact that they don’t have to enter credit card information and the low cost price of the Apps make this a compelling offer to consumers.”
This announcement is the first step in Wizzard’s expanded monetization plan for its podcasting network of 20,000 producers and their 18 million viewers and listeners, approximately 70% of whom use iTunes to subscribe to and download their favorite podcasts.  The plan, launched in mid-March, has already resulted in the closing of the afore mentioned Apps and Wizzard is in negotiation with 20 Apps for acquisition with a growing pipeline of interested App developers who see the value of marketing Apps via podcasts.  Wizzard believes this step will put it closer to its goal of profitability and will be announcing the next step in its network monetization plan in approximately 30 days.
“As more people move towards the mobile consumption of podcasts on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Wizzard sees new revenue opportunities opening up for its podcasting business using Apple’s App Store micropayment system,” says Dave Mansueto, co- founder of podcasting goliath Liberated Syndication (a Wizzard Media company).  “By creating a continuous revenue stream for podcast producers and App developers through the marketing of iPhone Apps via podcasts, we believe Wizzard is strengthening its market leading position in the podcast industry and will continue to be the service of choice for monetizing podcast inventory for media companies, large and small.”

The company I work for Wizzard Media has updated their embed Video Player (http://tools.wizzard.tv) to now work with the iPhone. Here is the blurb sent out to producers.

We are pleased to announce that starting today the Wizzard Flash Player is now compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

What does that mean for you? If you embed the Wizzard flash player on your website, anyone who visits your site from an iPhone or iPod Touch will see a big button to click on your video, full-screen, in all it's beautiful h.264 glory. This works for both the single episode player and the show players. This exciting new feature is also fully compatible with our ad insertion technology, so anyone looking to run ads can now reach their iphone and ipod touch audience members.

The good news. You don't have to do anything different or special to get this new functionality. If you are using the Wizzard flash player (http://tools.wizzard.tv ) just login, grab the embed code for your show or an individual episode, paste it on your website and presto! If you are a LibsynPRO user, simply publish your video, and then grab your embed code when you are finished.

The bad news: Due to the fact that we had to make a slight change to the HTML in the embed codes, if you want to add this functionality to your existing web sites' player, you will have to re-embed the player(s) with the new code format. It should only take a few seconds.

This update is currently for video podcasters but we will provide an update for audio podcasters very soon. If you have no idea about the Wizzard Player that is available to all libsyn users, please check it out here: http://tools.wizzard.tv It is totally free for you to use!

If you have any issues, please let us know and we will fix you right up! Enjoy your new and improved Wizzard Media Player!

Team WM

This is great news for Video producers and soon this option will also be available for all Audio Producers using the Wizzard Media player.

Below is a sample of this working in action.  Which you are able to click to watch from your iPhone.  One important thing for producers is that this works with both Single Episodes players and Multi-episode players.  So nothing special is needed on the producers side. Just embed the Wizzard Media Player with the new embed code and you are done.

I want to thank the Tech guys at Wizzard for helping to support the iPhone Platform - something I care a lot about.

And Yes for all my listeners - this is video of me and my son. I know I don't look anything like you expected. Hence why I do an audio show.

You can now update to iTunes 7.7 - check in software updater.

Once it is installed - if you do not see the App Store - change your country to New Zealand to see the app store.

The App store was not showing up yet when I was set to the US.  You can change the country at the bottom of the main page on iTunes.

Rob W

PS - YES!!! I know I messed up on the Caps Lock - it was there in 1.1.4

UPDATE 1:  From Chris in NY - for access from the US Store.

Go to preferences in iTunes on general tab make sure Applications is ticked. Then in itunes select Applications on the left. Then bottom right select get more appliations and you will see US AppStore.

Thanks Chris.

Survey Results on - Are you Getting the new iPhone 3G
Here is the survey data so far for the question on "Are you going to get the  iPhone 3G?"

There were 449 responses which puts it at an accuracy of better than +/- 5%.  Mind you this should be looked at not for the general public - but rather for those interested in the iPhone (YOU - why else would you be reading this).

But at least based on this data it looks like 50% of current iPhone owners are going to "upgrade" to the iPhone 3G.  And of those currntly iPhone deprived - 64% will be getting the new iPhone (Mind you it is those iPhone deprived and interested in the iPhone - otherwise they would not have found this survey). Either way you slice it this means millions of new iPhone 3G customers very soon (talk about captain obvious).

As speculated on the last episode 1.1.2 - did hit the Apple Servers today.

Here is a good article on Endgadget that gets into the details.

But a quick summary is this - Do not Update to 1.1.2 if you have any desire for native apps as it does fix the Tiff exploit that is needed for jailbreakme to work.

Even if you have no intentions of jailbreaking your iPhone, I would still recommend waiting a week of two before updating.

Let me know your experiences with 1.1.2 if you did actually update it.

Of course these things happen as soon as I post a new show.  There is a new very easy way to Jailbreak your 1.1.1 iPhone to allow for 3rd party aps and you do it from your iPhone.

Here are two links to great articles on this

TUAW1    TUAW2

Amazingly not only does this Jailbreak method unlock your phone from the Tiff Exploit it also patches that exploit.  Kind of like a burglar breaking into your house using a credit card to jimmy open the lock and then once inside installing a dead bolt to keep anyone else from doing that.

Simply send your 1.1.1 iphone to this URL

http://jailbreakme.com/

When you get there read the instruction and scroll to the bottom, then tap "Install AppSnapp"

If you are taken to the home screen then you are golden.  Your iPhone should then restart on its own (don't touch the screen until you see the slider appear)  Then slide to unlock and on your home screen you shoud see the installer.  And from that point on you can enjoy the end of my shows where we talk about all the cool 3rd party native apps on the iPhone.

So far I have heard from a few people that have tried this and they all have positive feedback - Let us know your experience in the comments.

UPDATE: 10-31-07 12:52 AM

Chris from NY recommended I add the following:

After you have succesfully added AppSnap:

1. Open Installer
2. Go to “Sources? and install the “Community Sources? package.
3. Next you’ll want to install the BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH, also under “System.?
4. Finally, you’ll need an application launcher. There’s XLaunch under “System? and others. Note that some of these utilities require an iPhone and won’t work on an iPod Touch.
5. Also,  Install 'SummerBoard New'  not Old.  So new Native App installers have the basics.

(Thanks Chris)

UPDATE: 11-01-07 5:07 PM

There have been some questions about the SSH install.  The main reason to use it is if you want to access your iPhone from your computer via Wifi.  There are two known issues with SSH on the iPhone - one is security as it defaults all iPhones to the same password.  The other is Battery life - it does drain down your battery when active - which is the default state.  To get arround both you can install SERVICES (not switches) so you can manually turn SSH on and off.  Or you could just not install SSH.

(Again thanks to Chris for info on this)
